So when Henry comes to More asking for his support in getting a divorce from Catherine of Aragon, this caused An Issue. Because of More’s Catholic faith, he was in the unfortunate position of having to refuse a direct request from the king. There’s some messy political business, where More has to take an oath of allegiance to the King as head of the Church. Which is awkward, because any Catholic will tell you that the Pope is the head of the Church. Moral quandaries abound, and More ends up like many of Henry VIII’s other contemporaries — with his head on a stick.
