Following the departure of Tom Watson from the Labour National Executive Committee earlier this year, Ashworth was appointed in his place as the leader’s representative on the party’s ruling body. A former adviser to Gordon Brown and currently Head of Party Relations for Ed Miliband, he has a vast wealth of experience despite only being an MP since the 2011 Leicester South by-election. If he continues at the speed of his current trajectory it can’t be long till he joins the Shadow Cabinet.
