The Yankees basically need to win the rest of their games and get help to make the playoffs. The Rays currently hold the first wild card spot and are five games ahead of the Bombers. If Tampa Bay wins one game, the Yankees cannot catch them. The Cleveland Indians currently hold the second wild card spot and are four games up on the Yanks. Cleveland is playing the lowly White Sox for two games before wrapping up with four against the equally lowly Twins. Any combination of three Indians wins or Yankee losses means the Bombers cannot catch the Tribe, either.
