In 1965, his theatre career took off when he played Rodolfo in Arthur Miller’s A View from the Bridge off-Broadway, before his breakthrough film Midnight Cowboy. The film saw both Voight and Hoffman nominated for Oscars in 1968 but it made history as the first X-rated film to win Best Picture.
