U.S. Trade Representative Michael Froman chose not to exercise his power to veto the ban on the Samsung products, saying there was no basis on policy grounds for doing so. In another case between the two rivals, Mr. Froman had overturned a ban on some Apple products in August, prompting warnings from Samsung about perceived protectionism by the U.S. on behalf of U.S. companies.
