Meanwhile, Thompson & Morgan have been crossing calabrese with kai-lan, or Chinese kale, to produce a plant that they’ve wisely decided simply to call broccoli, although the cultivar name 'Brokali’ is a clue to its origin. Clearly there’s life in the old cabbage yet.
